Pharmacy Technician Program

Registration for the fall semester of this course has passed. We will offer another course in January 2020. Please check back.

Spring 2020 Schedule:
Due to the community health situation surrounding COVID-19, we are unsure whether the January 2020-May 2020 class will be offered in person or online. Typically this class is offered Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 4:00pm in person at Riverside Adult School. Health conditions permitting, we will return to on campus instruction only. If we are not able to offer this course on campus/in person we will offer this course online. We hope to have information near the end of November/December about the schedule for this course.

In partnership with the Riverside County Office of Education this course prepares students to become licensed Pharmacy Technicians in the State of California and gain entry-level pharmacy technician employment.

Instruction includes:

• Knowledge of laws and regulations.

• Identification of terms, abbreviations, symbols, and drugs.

• Ability to calculate, use of metric and apothecary systems, and dispense medication.

• Record keeping techniques, clerical skills, customer service, retail skills, insurance and billing.

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR training and card. (May not be offered due to COVID-19 restrictions)

• Application for registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy

Admission Requirements:

(Reading 236+/Listening 228+).  Strong English reading, speaking and listening skills are required to communicate effectively as a Pharmacy Technician intern.

• Working as a Pharmacy Technician is a physically demanding job. Potential students need to possess the physical ability to stand for long periods of time, bend, and stoop when completing internship hours at a pharmacy.

• The program is funded through outcome based funding. This means that Riverside Adult School must show that students successfully earn a Pharmacy Technician license as a result of attending the program. Students must commit to applying for their license and meet all of the requirements to become licensed. The cost for obtaining your license is presently covered by Riverside Adult School and the process is completed during class. There are associated costs described below.
